Design verification testing of a new multi-channel antenna and receiver system is a significant and challenging undertaking. This paper describes a unique method for creating an intermediate system test prior to conducting outdoor field testing, or anechoic chamber testing.
By substituting a Rotman lens for a multi-channel antenna, a slate of receiver and processing algorithm tests can be performed using multi-static signals in a closed loop setting without the need for an antenna test chamber. The Rotman lens can simulate multiple simultaneous angles of arrival of signals through an antenna array without the effects of clutter, multi-path, and other environmental interference.
